Reunion Refresh
A new season of 2011 exhibitions start in Reunion Gallery, Felixstowe from 5th February with ‘Reunion Refresh’. To celebrate our 10th year of business we are showcasing 10 of the artists who have contributed to the success of the Gallery over this time.
Selected artists are Jazz Green, Pat Todd, Pippa Darbyshire, Richard Kimmerling, Alison Malcolm, Colin Slee, Ivan Quarton, Honor Surie, Verena Daniels and Wendy Brooke-Smith.
Here is a taster of Wendy Brooke-Smiths work showing currently.
Wendy Brooke-Smith is a landscape artist who works in acrylic and oil, and draws her inspiration from the docks, rivers and beaches of East Anglia. Often with an eye for the overlooked, Wendy’s work explores ideas of contrast and incongruity, particularly the impact of man-made structures in our natural environment.
She says “I must admit to being fascinated by the cranes of Felixstowe, such a dominant landmark in our region and visible from my home near Harwich, and particularly by the drama and scale of the docks, and the unexpected aesthetic qualities of this coastal industry”.
Wendy graduated in Fine Art from University Campus Suffolk in 2008. The demolition and regeneration of the Ipswich Waterfront was the subject matter for her Degree Show paintings, as well as further commissions for Bidwells Property Consultants and UCS.

How to Survive Christmas Shopping
November is here and the thought of Christmas looms large. In many households panic sets in – What do I get for the one I love? You don’t want to go mad, but it would be really nice to see the eyes widen and a great big smile on Christmas morning as the present is opened.
You don’t need to worry provided you follow a few simple rules.
- Understand how much you are prepared to spend on each person
- Think about the likes and dislikes of the person you are buying for
- Look around at things the person has around them to understand them better
- Start looking early (the worst presents always seem to be those bought last thing on Christmas Eve!)
- Look for a shop that can help you choose or offer advice if you want it
- Don’t be rushed, take time for each present and don’t try and get everything in one shop or one go
Reunion Gallery is there to help you. In its Christmas exhibition – ‘Coastal Christmas’ It has a wide selection of art and jewellery, mostly created by local artists, that is available at affordable prices. The choice is wide ranging between pictures, ceramics, glass, jewellery, bronzes plus wire and metal creations. Please ask the staff to help you if you find it is all too much. If you want to have a relaxing shop you can stay and indulge in a tea, coffee or hot chocolate in our Coffee Lounge.
The Gallery at Christmas also has for sale a range of Christmas decorations that are that bit different.
We have an open day on Saturday 20th November from 10am to 5pm where we will be offering you spiced drinks and mince pies. Please feel free to call into the Gallery then.
Exhibition runs from 30th October to 24th December

Oil Paintings by Ivan Quarton
Reunion Gallery is proud to announce the first solo exhibition of Ivan Quarton’s work. Regular visitors to the Gallery will have seen and admired work he has done as part of some of our previous mixed exhibitions, but we have given him free rein to indulge in painting the subjects that inspire him.
Ivan was born in Ipswich and has always lived locally, where he worked as an engineering designer and web application developer. Ivan is a member of the Ipswich Art Society and the Orwell Art Club
Ivan is mainly self taught but initial inspiration and guidance, to start painting in watercolours, was given by a local artist. Two or three years ago he decided to ’try’ oils and has not used any other medium since, as he loves their vibrant colours, their smell and the action of applying the paint. He produces soft edged work for atmosphere, vibrant colours, with interesting brush marks and texture for lasting visual pleasure.
He paints from the subject but also utilises sketches, notes, and photographs etc. which are used as the information for the work. With this information and imagination he achieves a ‘painterly impression’ using Interesting light and its effect on a subject as inspiration.
Verena Daniels from Reunion Gallery said “Having seen the light and softness in Ivan’s paintings that he has exhibited here before we just had to give him an opportunity to express himself over the full range of subjects that inspire him. I definitely think he is one to watch out for.”
Art on the Prom 2010
Thanks to everyone that game down to visit the Reunion Gallery Stall. The weather was basically kind & things didn’t blow about too much!
See some photes of the event below.
Graduate Impressions Exhibition
Ever wondered what Graduates get up to once the hard work has finished and they are into the easy life of the real world? A lot of things I’m sure that we can’t print here, but those UCS Graduates from this year who were awarded the Reunion Gallery Art Prize have been busy preparing for an exhibition at the Gallery and have created some great images!
The Exhibition runs from 7th to 18th September – why not come down to have a look? The Reunion Gallery is open 10am to 5pm Tuesday to Saturday.
Art on the Prom
It’s Felixstowe’s Art on the Prom on Sunday 5th September between 10am and 4pm. Why not come and see us on Stand 66 (near the Spa Gardens) and say hello. There is lots to do for the children as well as entertainment. There should be 85 stands this year so come along and buy that beautiful piece of art that you have always promised yourself (or your partner!).
See you there.
