Summer Refresh
Reunion Gallery has refreshed its Artist work for the Summer. All the Exhibiting Artists involved in ‘Reunion Refresh’ have replaced their sold work with new pictures.
The exhibition contains many types of artwork, from oil and acrylic paintings, to fused glass and ceramics and also monoprints and etchings.
The subjects are varied as are the styles and media for the exhibiting artworks. You can see the fantastic light of the east coast captured in oils by Ivan Quarton sitting close to atmospheric acrylic scenes by Honor Surie. If it’s texture you want, then Jazz Green’s work can be viewed together with Alison Malcolms plus of course, fused glass scenes from Verena Daniels. Richard Kimmerling provides monoprints and etchings that depict the seasons of the local area. Wendy Brooke-smith’s acrylics provide a dramatic backdrop to Colin Slee’s moody pictures of land and sky. The exhibition is completed by ceramic pieces by Pat Todd and observations of her locale in France by Pippa Darbyshire.
Exhibiting artists for Reunion Refresh are Verena Daniels, Alison Malcolm, Pat Todd, Jazz Green, Pippa Darbyshire, Colin Slee, Richard Kimmerling, Ivan Quarton, Honor Surie and Wendy Brooke-Smith.

Ivan Quarton refreshes work in Reunion Refresh
“ Recently I have mainly worked with oils as I find their vibrant colours, smell and methods of application particularly appealing.
Although my work is close to representational, I attempt to produce a ‘painterly impression’ by blurring edges for softness and atmosphere, utilising vibrant colours, interesting brush marks and texture for lasting visual pleasure. Using my imagination with the colour and form , I believe also, helps to achieve this. I am inspired more by interesting light and its effect on a subject than the subject itself. To this end most subjects can appeal.
This year I shall be looking to the local landscape, particularly coastal, as a source of inspiration and subject, but not forgetting my fondness for still life and the odd flora/fauna subject. ”

Reunion Refresh continues
Reunion Refresh exhibition continues at Reunion Gallery in Felixstowe.
To celebrate our 10th year of business we are showcasing 10 of the artists who have contributed to the success of the Gallery over this time.
Selected artists are Jazz Green, Pat Todd, Pippa Darbyshire, Richard Kimmerling, Alison Malcolm, Colin Slee, Ivan Quarton, Honor Surie, Verena Daniels and Wendy Brooke-Smith.
This month here is a preview of Honor Surie’s work featured in the exhibition.
Honor says “ I love the rivers, bordered with reeds, mud flats and reflected lights.
I absorb the feeling of these areas. I look at local places, draw them, and using this reference, push the images around in my sketch book, developing them into compositions that please me, which is why I find myself painting mainly landscape.
I am open to working with all types of materials if it helps achieve the desired outcome. I paint very figurative works that gradually became simplified into abstraction, and sometimes it works the other way round. ”
Reunion Refresh
A new season of 2011 exhibitions start in Reunion Gallery, Felixstowe from 5th February with ‘Reunion Refresh’.
Here is a taster of Wendy Brooke-Smiths work showing currently.
Wendy Brooke-Smith is a landscape artist who works in acrylic and oil, and draws her inspiration from the docks, rivers and beaches of East Anglia. Often with an eye for the overlooked, Wendy’s work explores ideas of contrast and incongruity, particularly the impact of man-made structures in our natural environment.
She says “I must admit to being fascinated by the cranes of Felixstowe, such a dominant landmark in our region and visible from my home near Harwich, and particularly by the drama and scale of the docks, and the unexpected aesthetic qualities of this coastal industry”.
Wendy graduated in Fine Art from University Campus Suffolk in 2008. The demolition and regeneration of the Ipswich Waterfront was the subject matter for her Degree Show paintings, as well as further commissions for Bidwells Property Consultants and UCS.
