“ I am becoming more interested in the process and in the act of painting.
I try to challenge myself to attempt something, which I have no idea how to resolve so that I am working my control.
Lately I have begun to work from photos (which I take myself), which has led to new painting possibilities. Rain, snow, waves and passing clouds; fleeting views from the car and the dalmatic affects of the mind can be frozen in time with click if the camera and interpreted in my own way with new textures and techniques that I learnt many years ago when I was a specialist decorator.
My work is figurative (although my interest is always in the geometric construction and abstract qualities) and I still feel the need to return to nature sometimes and continue to make oil sketches en plein air along side my studio practice, which I consider to be my research.
Lately I leave evidence/traces of my underlying construction lines and calculations as I think it keeps a painting more ‘open’ and communicative less finalised ”
