A Touch of Frost

We love Christmas here at Reunion Gallery. It gives the artistic and creative minds amongst us the chance to seek out artworks and decorations that are just that bit different. Each year we try and ensure that a visit to the Gallery at Christmas time is an enjoyable and worthwhile experience, for the customer that wants to make sure that Christmas is just that bit more special.

The exhibition this year is entitled ‘A Touch of Frost’ and many of the exhibits reflect that freshness and clarity often associated with frost. Artworks created for this show allow the artists to demonstrate that the introduction of vivid colour isn’t always necessary to bring out a warm feeling, or cheerful picture. There are displays of work from many local artists, also featured in the upstairs Gallery, together with bronzes, jewellery and unusual furniture. Many of our unusual decorations are displayed hanging from our, often remarked upon, ‘floating’ Christmas trees. As in previous years, resident artists Pat Todd and Verena Daniels have created a special range of ceramic and glass decorations to assist you build a lovely festive atmosphere in your own home.

To further help the relaxation and enjoyment of visitors, they can partake of a hot drink whilst reflecting on the display from the comfort of a chair. A free mince pie is available with all drinks from 1 November (while stocks last). The Coffee shop is open during normal Gallery hours on Tuesday to Saturday between 10am to 5pm.

So why not visit us at Reunion Gallery situated in the heart of Felixstowe’s Artist Quarter and see why an independent artistic centre is an asset to the town and its residents? Above all, we want you to enjoy your Christmas shopping and will try and help you calm down and relax as you take your time to select what it is we have that fits your needs.

Print on Print Exhibition

‘Print on Print’

1st October to 22nd October

Reunion Gallery welcomes Mike Todd for his first Solo Exhibition in the Upstairs Gallery. He has created a body of prints that reflect contemporary themes with a focus on the isolated image of the subject in each piece.

Mike studied graphics at UCS, graduating with a BA (Hons) 1st in 2009. Since graduating, he has concentrated on the techniques and images created with various types of Print processes including digital and traditional techniques. He is a member of the Sudbourne Printers Group and has exhibited pieces with them in recent years.

The body of work created for Reunion Gallery’s exhibition was the result of his inspiration whilst studying for the degree and his focus on the processes used to create a printed image sometimes altered using digital techniques. The prints often started as disparate images from various media and were compiled by putting these together to reflect the desired final image. The underlying connection between many of the pieces is – People and Places at Moments in time – with the image reflecting the situation of the subject portrayed.

Examples of the work are the two pieces entitled 1969 Revised and Freedom to Think. These were created as a Photomontage with layers created from original photographs taken in 1969 of Mike’s girlfriend (now wife). The addition of more layers of Print and subsequent digital adjustment create a result that transcends the decades that have passed in between.

Good Turnout for Felixstowe’s Art on the Prom

Thousands of people turned up on Felixstowe Prom on Sunday 4th September for the 7th ‘Art on the Prom’. Many came just to look at the 88 Artists stands but some lucky people went away with some fantastic pieces of art.

Reunion Gallery was there (as we have been each year) and it was great to meet, speak to and sell to so many people. See picture below of the stand (before the rain came and we had to pack up a bit early!).

Verena also had an installation based on the ‘Bodies on the Beach’ theme. She did 3 wire figures enjoying a typical beach day out. See pictures below.
